Position Overview:
The Commercial Building Engineer is responsible for maintaining the day-to-day operations, functionality, and appearance of medical office buildings through hands-on maintenance, preventative care, and tenant support. At Meadows & Ohly, we use the title interchangeably with “Building Manager” because we value professionals who take ownership of their buildings, proactively identify opportunities for improvement, and help create environments that support healthcare delivery and exceptional tenant experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance for building systems and equipment
- Troubleshoot and resolve HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, and general building issues
- Complete work orders and respond to tenant service requests in a timely manner
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors to support building operations and maintenance activities
- Conduct routine property inspections to identify and address maintenance, safety, and housekeeping needs
- Maintain building logs, records, compliance documentation, and operational files
- Support life safety and regulatory compliance programs, including required inspections
- Assist with budgeting, operational planning, and supply inventory management
- Build strong relationships with tenants, vendors, and property ownership while supporting exceptional customer service
- Ability to support after-hours emergency response activities when required
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Two or more years of experience in building maintenance, facilities operations, construction, manufacturing, or related service industries
- Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems
- Ability to troubleshoot building systems and perform routine maintenance and repairs
- Experience coordinating vendors and maintaining regulatory compliance preferred
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, building schematics, and safety documentation
- Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities
