Guiding the Largest Healthcare Investment in Northwest Florida History
Baptist Health Care set out to reimagine how it delivers care across Northwest Florida and Southern Alabama. Faced with the limitations of a hospital originally built in 1951, the health system made a bold commitment: invest $654 million to create a modern, 57-acre medical campus in Pensacola that could meet the region’s evolving needs. The new flagship includes a 10-story acute care hospital, a six-story medical office building, a behavioral health unit, a central energy plant, and extensive outpatient clinics. Meadows & Ohly was engaged as Program Manager to lead this multi-year initiative from pre-construction through activation, guiding scope development, entitlement strategy, budget control, while fast-tracking delivery for one of the most significant healthcare projects in the Southeast.
Managing Complexity at Speed and Scale
Assembling 31 separate parcels into a cohesive 57-acre development site added layers of complexity to an already ambitious project. Meadows & Ohly led the coordination of entitlements, utility infrastructure, and demolition efforts to ensure construction could begin on schedule. We then directed a fast-tracked delivery strategy that brought the campus from groundbreaking to occupancy in less than three years. This required precise integration of design, construction, and activation teams, along with a phased occupancy plan that allowed training and equipment installation to occur in parallel with construction. Despite the scale and complexity, the project was completed on schedule and opened in September 2023. Today, the Brent Lane campus stands as a regional model for forward-thinking, patient-centered care. It is equipped with advanced technology, centralized services, and a flexible infrastructure designed to evolve with the community for generations to come.
